7-Point Hitachi Equipment Inspection Checklist: What I Check on Every Excavator and Wheel Loader

Step 1: The Paperwork Matters More Than You Think

Marginalizing the dealer network. The dealer's location, parts stock levels, and field service team are part of the equipment. They're not a separate consideration.

Being distracted by a shiny wash. A detailed machine can hide leaks, suspicious wear, and poor repairs. I've seen a power-washed undercarriage hide thousands of dollars in wear — once to the tune of $28,000. Wash it again after you inspect it, not before.

One more honest note: this checklist comes from my context. I manage mid-sized fleets and resale operations in a domestic market.
